We describe an elastic matching procedure between plane curves based on computing a minimal deformation cost between the curves. The design of the deformation cost is based on a geodesic distance defined on an infinite dimensional group acting on the curves. The geodesic paths also provide an optimal deformation process, which allows interpolation between any plane curves. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The use of adaptive Gaussian mixtures to model the colour distributions of objects is described. These models are used to perform robust, real-time tracking under varying illumination, viewing geometry and camera parameters. Observed log-likelihood measurements were used to perform selective adaptation. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

In actual scene analysis, the influence of non-ideal conditions such as non-uniform illumination should be taken into account. The conventional methods for the estimation of motion fields are violated in this situation. In this study, two approaches are proposed to extract reliable motion fields under spatio-temporal non-uniform illumination. These are an extended constraint equation with spati...
متن کاملAn observation-constrained generative approach for probabilistic classification of image regions
In this paper, we propose a probabilistic region classification scheme for natural scene images. In conventional generative methods, a generative model is learnt for each class using all the available training data belonging to that class. However, if an input image has been generated from only a subset of the model support, use of the full model to assign generative probabilities can produce s...

A general active contour formulation is considered and a convexity analysis of its energy function is presented. Conditions under which this formulation has a unique solution are derived; these conditions involve both the active contour energy potential and the regularization parameters. This analysis is then applied to four particular active contour formulations, revealing important characteri...

We present a two-step algorithm for the recognition of circles. The first step uses a 2D Hough Transform for the detection of the centres of the circles and the second step validates their existence by radius histogramming. The 2D Hough Transform technique makes use of the property that every chord of a circle passes through its centre. We present results of experiments with synthetic data demo...
